Don’t you just appreciate it when one of your buddies says to you, “Hey, you’ve got to meet these guys. You would really like them.” I’ve met a lot of great people in Colorado, and Jerry and Holly Leachman are definitely on that list.
What’s not to like about a guy who played football at the University of Alabama Crimson Tide? Jerry played for the legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. He didn’t just sit on a bench; he played. Get him to tell you about some of the hardest hits he got (and gave)!
Jerry had another grand adventure. He served as the chaplain for the Washington Redskins football team, ministering to athletes daily. His faith moved Jerry to help these men with their spiritual fights. Just like at Alabama, Jerry helped other men continue to follow the instructions given to them by their coach. Only this time it wasn’t the legendary coach “Bear” Bryant, but the “Immortal” Jesus Christ that had Jerry relaying plays to the men. Get him to tell you about some of the spiritual “touchdowns” he witnessed.
Men from all walks of life have benefited from his ministry. He’s talked to hundreds of men in one room. During one instance in Russia, a microphone placed before him broadcast his heartfelt words to millions via radio.
Jerry has held private meetings with world leaders, had a one on one with Billy Graham, and been in a boatload of conversations with professional athletes. Ask him about some of his encounters with the rich and famous!
Jerry has been in some type of Christian ministry for 40-plus years! But he couldn’t have done it by himself. No way! That’s why God sent a college girl named Holly to saddle up with this maverick and begin a marriage that overflows even to this day. He calls her “Smokin’ Hot Holly”! I’ll have to testify that I agree that she’s smokin’ hot. I should know cause I’m married to a smokin’ hot gal myself!
Get Jerry to tell you about his sweet wife, Holly. Warning! He may talk your head off, as he’s got a lifetime of passion, thrills, crapshoots, and undertakings that these two have shared. Come to think of it, it’s hard not to think of Jerry without thinking of Holly. I would describe them as two peas in a pod, joined at the hip, even partners in crime.
Have I mentioned that you need to talk to him yourself? Hey, message me and I’ll even give you his phone number. Yep, I have his number. The same number that he uses to talk to all these highfalutin (yep, that’s how you spell it) big shots, he uses to talk to me.
Jerry and Holly are my friends. When Jerry talks, his conversations may be about everyday events. We may discuss the happenings in our Wet Mountain Valley here in Colorado. We inform each other regarding our spouses’ recent activities. Current news may prompt discussion.
And football. There’s always football to dive into. On a side note, one day when we are together at a public gathering, I’m going to roll a football across the floor and holler, “fumble” and watch Jerry’s reaction! I just want to watch the little kids get trampled and see how many dishes and glasses get broken. I know our smokin’ hot wives will disapprove, even though I can see Staci “egging” Jerry on.
But in all of Jerry’s talkings and telling of stories, there is one thing that I love. It’s that somehow he always weaves in the importance of following his Coach, the Coach with a capital C. I’m talking about God.
Jerry possesses a talent for discussing Christ, which men find both interesting and meaningful. You’ll know that when you call him. I’ll send you his number. Seriously. Better yet, Jerry’s got a book out that I highly recommend you read.
It’s called “Brave Hearts Strong Arms”. Would you like to know some of the “locker room” talks that happened?
Reading the book is like actually being there.

World travelers Jerry and Holly, have rubbed shoulders with influential individuals.
But what’s important to me is that these two have rubbed shoulders with Staci and me. We’ve shared casual meals together, taken ATV trips in the mountains, and talked of our Christian journeys we are traveling on.
Jerry, there is a current song called “I Speak Jesus”. It wouldn’t surprise me if I found out that you wrote it.
I know that you live this song, and its meaning.
I’m forever thankful to call you my friend. Looking forward to rubbing shoulders with you on some more mountain adventures.
Roll Tide!
